Hello everyone, and merry Christmas! 🙂
It’s been a blessed, yet hectic holiday for us in the Underwing camp with a lot of shows and errands to take care of, but we’re starting to see the end of 2016 and a very successful “The nightmare before Christmas” Tour (Yeah, I’ve unofficially named it) 😉
Anyways, this post is about our gig at the annual “Julejam” at Arendal Rock Klubb, which has been a tradition since way back, long before I was born 🙂
Since it’s Christmas and I’ve been up way too long playing Final Fantasy XV and binge-eating cookies, it was time to (at least for a day in-between dinners and family get-togethers) rise and shine early to get a glimpse of routine again. I started the day at 7am sending some e-mails and listening to Vorbid’s new EP which you can check out HERE, setting the mood for the night to come (Vorbid was headlining and they kicked major ass, as always) 😉
After doing the office tasks at hand, I decided to hit the gym to make room for some delicious food later on at my family’s residence ( Thanks mom :* ) before I had to show up at Munkehaugen around 5:30 or so.
I then met the guys and also plenty of others in the backstage area, and got to greet the guys in Quip Azure which is a prog-ish type of band from Risør. I had never heard of them before, but I was pleasantly surprised by their musicality, the guys had major chops and a very enchanting sound 🙂
Now it’s the part of the blog post where I bitch and complain about that there is nothing special to write about because we’re in our hometown etc. but I can share the exclusive details about a nasty game of chess between Joachim & Enyeto later 😉 Maybe over a beer at our next gig? Haha.
Other than that we pretty much just relaxed in the backstage area with the other bands, drank a few beers and had plenty of laughs 🙂 Good times!
We were the second to last band of the evening, so we had a lot of time to watch the other bands play before us. They all did an amazing job, and we’re lucky to be among so many great musicians and friends. Arendal is really in it’s prime when it comes to the music scene these days, and that excites my heart <3
I was especially excited to see FHALL, which is a new project playing what they call “astronaut-rock”. It really slapped me across the face with joy, and I can’t wait to hear more from these guys in the future!!
Hjaaik also kicked ass, they have such an unique sound and their singer Anette is PURE talent! In fact they all are, and also beautifully decent human-beings! 🙂
We did our show, and dear mama was the venue crowded!
We opened the show with a brand new song, titled “Oracle” to great response from the people in the crowd. This is one of my favourites to play because of the energy in the song, it’s a hard-hitting rock n roll song which most of you (hopefully) will like 😉
I have to mention that all pictures of the show were taken by an amazingly talented photographer named Danny Santana, we’re really happy with the results and will definitely use him again and I recommend him to everyone who wants quality photos of whatever you may desire! 🙂
After the gig we decided to hit town, so I met up with two amazing girls named Helle & Melinda and joined them back to their place for some whiskey and lolz, it was great fun! 😀
As many times before, the night ended at our favourite place to be; Barrique 😉
We had a couple of beers before we headed home to Grimstad, tired but content.
Next up is Onkel Aksel /w Leafy, and it’s going to be the last show of 2016 so you better be there! 😉
